For this podcast we sit down for a conversation with Stephen Dannhauser and Rusty Staub about this years’ Annual Dinner. Listen as they discuss the impact that the annual dinner has on both the supporters of the Benefit Fund as well as the beneficiaries. So much of the ability of the fund to care for those families that lost loved one in the line of duty depends on the money raised through the dinner.

This year we paid tribute to the four living mayors of New York, learn how each has had a genuine commitment to the Benefit Fund. Rusty and Stephen also share the information about next year when we gather for the 25th Annual Benefit Fund Dinner.

As the winners of the trip Molly and Tom traveled to the Bahamas to hang out and go fishing with Mark and his family. As we hear in the podcast both Molly and Tom were made to feel like they were part of the Messier family as well.
Recognized as one of the greatest leaders of all sports, Messier is the only professional athlete to Captain two different teams to championships. As Captain of the New York Rangers in 1994, his leadership became legendary. With his team down three games to two against the New Jersey Devils, Messier guaranteed victory. He delivered, scoring a natural hat trick, leading his team to a 4-2 victory and forcing a seventh and final Eastern Conference game. He went on to lead the New York Rangers to their first Stanley Cup in 54 years and is now regarded in the same company as New York sports icons Babe Ruth and Joe Namath. Known throughout the sporting world simply as the “Captain”, Messier’s number “11”was retired and raised to the rafters by the New York Rangers and the Edmonton Oilers.
When a Fire Fighter or Police Officer falls in the line of duty, New York is diminished. But it’s the family that pays the price. For over 25 years, the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund has stepped up to help these families. Immediately after the death of a First Responder, the Benefit Fund delivers the family a check to help them through the uncertain times such a tragedy can bring. After the initial crisis, the Benefit Fund provides each family with ongoing assistance through special events, financial support and a network of friends ready to lend a hand. It’s the least we can do. First responders risk their lives trying to make New York City a better place for us to live and work. the Benefit Fund gives New Yorkers an opportunity to say “Thank You” to the families of those who make the ultimate sacrifice. **More than 90 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to the families of Fire Fighters, Police Officers, Port Authority and Emergency Medical Services personnel killed in the line of duty.
